Layered media can be used as acoustic filters, allowing only elastic waves of certain frequencies to propagate. In soft solids, large deformations can occur, so that wave propagation is inherently nonlinear. Thus, the dynamic properties of soft laminates need to be analysed for motions of large amplitude. Using homogenisation theory, we derive an effective equation of motion whose solutions are computed numerically. This model is then used to describe solitary wave solutions as well as the material's response to impacts.
