Abstract: I will present a short proof of the fundamental theorem of algebra and explain its relation to a new algorithm we developed to find all roots of certain high degree polynomials. This algorithm works unusually well and enabled us to factorise polynomials of degree up to 10^12. The polynomials of interest are related to the Mandelbrot set.
