Abstract: This is joint work with Domingo García, Daniel Pellegrino, and Eduardo Teixeira (Proc. AMS (2020)). We discuss a property called ``wmp,'' related to reflexivity, that has applications to norm attaining operators. A pair $(X,Y)$ of Banach spaces has the weak maximizing property (wmp) if any bounded linear operator $T:X \to Y$ attains its norm provided there is a non weakly-null maximizing sequence.

Our intentions are to
(i) explain the italicised words in the previous sentence,
(ii) describe the relation between the ``wmp'' and reflexivity, and
(iii) discuss some open problems.
