will speak on

Pattern formations and the “hot spots” conjecture

Time: 3:00PM

Abstract: A reaction diffusion equation describes various phenomena arising in biology and chemistry. We study a stable steady state, which is physically realizable, of a reaction diffusion equation and simplified system. In particular, we are interested in its shape. This problem is related to the second eigenvalue and also the 'hot spots' conjecture.
