"Understanding Common Aspects of Extreme Events in Fluids"

Call for Abstracts - Symposium Information

The IUTAM Symposium on Understanding Common Aspects of Extreme Events in Fluids welcomes research articles involved in the themes as described on the Symposium Home Page. All articles will be subject to a full peer review. Accepted articles will be published in the prestigious IUTAM Procedia and the highest-quality articles will be published in a special issue of Physica D.

Instructions for submission of the full manuscript will be given at a later stage.

Extended abstracts (max. 500 words, plain text) are required by Monday 21/05/2012. Please log into the CECAM website:

Abstract acceptance will be confirmed by Monday 11/06/2012.

Symposium attendees will be provided with a book of abstracts.


The Symposium Programme (tentative) can be downloaded HERE (TBC).


Some participants are required to prepare a 20-minute presentation (including questions) to deliver at the times on the programme. Other participants are required to present posters (A0 format). Finally, keynote (plenary) lectures will be 60 minutes long (including questions).

There will be one dedicated PC available for all oral presentations. Please have your presentation in PPT, PPTX, or PDF format, ready to upload to the PC before your session (make sure to include video files). All presentations for a given session should be uploaded to the PC before the start of the session.


During the Symposium, we will have a total of four discussion sessions of about 40 minutes each, where key questions will be posed and discussed. All participants are invited to participate in these Quaker meetings, so feel free to start thinking now about your favourite question for the meeting.


The chairperson in charge of each session will introduce each of the speakers. For this purpose, please write a brief biography highlighting your background and field of work. The biography should include:

  • Your name and Title
  • Affiliation
  • 4 sentences maximum about your background and work
