Abstract: The majorization relation plays a significant role in mathematics and science. I will give some background and then discuss an open problem in entanglement theory concerning the probability that two random vectors are comparable in the sense of majorization. I will explain recent progresses on this problem based on connections with persistence probabilities of non-Markovian processes and extreme eigenvalues of random matrices. Based on joint work with Paolo Facchi, Giuseppe Florio and Giovanni Gramegna.
