Name: Bernard Russo (UC Irvine)Speaking: Fri 10th May 12:00 - 12:25Title: Universal Enveloping TROs, continuous JBW*-triples, and structure of W*-TROsAbstract: The universal enveloping TRO of a JC*-triple was introduced simultaneously and independently by Bunce-Feely-Timoney and Bohle-Werner around 2012, and both sets of authors determined the universal TROs of the Cartan factors, the latter authors in finite dimensions.
We use the universal enveloping TRO of a JC*-triple and the structure theorem for JBW*-triples to prove a structure theorem for W*-TROs, which is essentially due to Ruan by other methods. The universal enveloping TROs of continuous JBW*-triples are determined, and are used to give an alternate proof of the above mentioned structure theorem, illustrating the power of the further results of Bunce and Timoney.
