We study the scattering of a scalar charge by a Schwarzschild black hole in the framework of first-order self-force theory. We follow the usual mode-sum regularization scheme to obtain the regularized field in a combined PM-PN expansion, which is then used to analytically construct the associated physical observables, i.e., the scattering angle and the radiated energy and angular momentum. There are several subtleties underlying such a computation which are discussed.
