Title:
Quantifying the duration and frequency of low renewable energy generation events in Ireland
Time:
3PM Monday, 15 November 2021
Location:
Science Centre North, Room 1.25

The energy system in Ireland is transitioning away from traditional dependable fossil fuels and relying more on the intermittent energy from renewable sources, mainly in the form of wind energy. A persistent period of low power generation is especially challenging when electricity demand is high. It’s important to quantify the duration and frequency of low-power-events so that the energy system can be managed in order to meet consumer’s electricity demand. This talk will present a brief analysis of low-wind-power events in Ireland. I will also describe a virtual wind farm network designed to represent current and future power generation potential.
