I compare collapse simulations in spherical symmetry in 2+1 dimensions (with negative cosmological constant): massless scalar field matter (with Joanna Jalmuzna), and a perfect fluid with ultrarelativistic equation of state (with Patrick Bourg). We find type II critical phenomena, which implies that naked singularitities form from regular initial data right at the threshold of collapse, but the critical solutions are not self-similar, in different ways.
