A Note on Plagiarism.

PLAGIARISM is using others' ideas and words without
clearly acknowledging the source of that information.

Plagiarism has been a growing problem in recent years. The University takes a very serious view of this issue, and has established a policy on it. The policy statement may be found at

There is also helpful information about this subject on the UCD Library pages, at

What is Plagiarism?

It is easy to copy material, particularly from the internet, and use it in reports and theses. This is acceptable, within reason, provided the source is clearly and explicitly acknowledged.

Students should also be aware that there are sophisticated software tools which enable the detection of copying from the internet in digital reports. Thus, while it is easier than ever to copy other people's work, it is also easier than ever to detect such copying.
